Gravity Of Motion
Are you familiar with Minecraft? It has quite a following... but I'm guessing that you probably know the term or haven't heard of it. Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. It is a game built around creativity and building players to construct structures from textured cubes in a 3D world. The game's commercial release comes with two major modes: Survival where players have to acquire resources and maintain their health and food; and Creative, which allows players to have unlimited resources and the ability to fly in the air without notion of health or hunger.
On birthdays, our children wake up to a room packed with birthday decorations.
For the tablescape, I designed Minecraft plates and cups. I glued an Minecraft face on the cups. For the plates, I put a Minecraft face on green plates. Then I hot-glued an uncolored plate to the top.
Minecraft blocks were used as table decorations. Some were also hung from the ceiling.
The children loved them.
Follow this link to create the Minecraft blocks: The Ultimate Guide to Minecraft Paper Products. They were easy to make.
I used freezer paper stenciling to create my son's creeper shirts.
For a birthday sign I printed a few Minecraft images. Then, I made use of an Minecraft word generator to add the words I wanted to include to the Creeper signs. You can find that generator here: Minecraft MemeGenerator
I purchased the Minecraft pic-ax, and I used the packaging to make a decorative sign. I made the Minecraft Steve heads with glue, paper, card board boxes, and cardboard boxes.
The Steve heads were a big success with the kids. Here's a photo I took of my boys and the Steve heads before they went to school.
You can purchase Steve heads online, but it was much cheaper to make them myself, especially when I was making four of them.
I found the Steve head template and directions here: SteveLange.net
For a snack in the afternoon, I made block brownies.
I created the Creeper Birthday Cake with green icing, chocolate bars, and chocolate chips.
It was a Creeper-filled Minecraft Birthday.
I am linking this post up to Works-For-Me-Wednesday.
My son's excitement over his party worked for me. I spent many hours looking on the internet for ideas. If you have an avid Minecraft fan in your house I hope that you benefit from these ideas and resources.
